So you've read the perspective of able-bodied people against euthanizing the severely disabled, and the perspective of able-bodied people in favor of euthanizing the disabled, and political takes on both sides...

But did you read the perspective of people that are actually being talked *about* in this debate, given both sides appear to ignore that we might have an opinion? Here are a couple, offhand:

http://www.notdeadyet.org/
http://www.ragged-edge-mag.com/extra/wokeup.html

The overwhelming majority of those with exceptionally severe disabilities (quadraplegia, for example) ranging down to those of us with merely 'severe' ones (like most of my vital organs needing serious assistance to function) don't want to die. There are a few that, because of how we are treated by others, develop suicidal depression. Usually, if they are given the painkillers, tools, home/community accommodations, and other things they need to participate as an adult, and are not regarded negatively by others, they come to terms with the change and the depression goes away. (Most newly-disabled people go through a grief process, but afterwards become OK with it.)

i was talking about the power struggle between those who claim that 'right to life' means they [generally the so-called 'religious' right] get to decide things for you, and those who argue that choices should not be given to third parties.

i'm not advocating either position, though i do strongly disagree with the idea that a bunch of fundamentalist anythings should have control over anything in anyone's public arena.

that said, thanks for the comment and the links :) i might well refer to them the next time i decide to rant about diability issues.
