So. It's official. We're not preparing for war, we're just preparing in case we need to prepare for war ... I'm convinced. No, really ... well, OK. I'm not buying it at all.
Australia will be sending our SAS back out after they have just go home from Afghanistan. They must be thrilled.
I'm in this wierd position where I kinda hope it happens - might get a job - but kinda wish we could get a break from 'US-everything' .. surely someone else has something interesting we could all be thinking about? Apart from terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, and so on.
Parhaps I ought to fess up a little. I'm a human rights type. I'm interested in military law and international criminal law - that is, war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes against peace. I figure, if we have to fight, we ought to at least play by the rules of the game - after all, it's going to be quite bad enough with rules - people ARE going to get killed, and more often than not these days its going to be civilians rather than soldiers.
OK, perhaps more than just interested in military law. I'm trying to join the Army ... as a lawyer. Perhaps I dream ... of something. And not just money. Hell, if I got a job in corporate law I'd make a hellova lot more money than the Army offers.
I want to make a difference, a real difference, to people's lives. I figure it hardly counts more than in war. Whether I can save lives, well, that path is for doctors and medics and nurses. No. I want to ensure the game is fair ... at least reasonably so. Fair enough that people get a chance, have a go, can make their own way in the world with their own lives.
Ah, nuts. Life is. Sometimes, though, I wonder if politicians are alive ... Linkin Park, Crawling, blasts from the background ... images from the video float across my inner eye ... I turn aside and turn the volume down a little ... and press post
