the following is a slightly edited version of a recent comment i made in [livejournal.com profile] theheadofstate's lj on the topic of understanding people:

even professional psychologists get stumped from time to time.

mostly i just wing it, and hope for the best. most of the time i assume the best of people - but i also pay attention to the little paranoid voice in my head.

generally speaking, i only have time for complex people. simple people just aren't interesting enough. [i'm not kidding.] i've tried to be magnanimous and pc in the past, but it sucks - so i'm honest about it. {doesn't mean i don't agree that i should be more accomodating, just that i'm honest when i'm not}

and honestly, everyone is still working it all out - this whole understanding people thing. most people never even figure themselves out. this is really the only game in town. everything else is make-work.
