i'm not a practitioner of any formal shamanic tradition, but i certainly don't fit into many of the other shamanic paths either.
to me, shamanism is two related things:
a shaman requires a community to be a shaman. the practices of shamanism operate to serve the needs of other people. the person who practices on/by themselves alone is not a shaman.
i operate within a small pagan community.

i came up with the term while writing my phd (which i have since dropped, for many reasons) only to discover it was already out there.
i have seen it in use in political and information warfare circles.
