according to livejournal support:
Free users on the FiletMignon cluster (Where am I?) may find that their journals are temporarily in read-only mode, due to maintenance being performed on the cluster. Please see lj_maintenance for more information.
i go, and this article gives me the good news.

and yes, [livejournal.com profile] maelorin is hosted on the filetmignon cluster.

i am thinking seriously about setting up my own weblog on my own server space once i get a job.

thoughts, advice, etc welcome.

As am I - things have been a little better since comments haven't been lost when sent during read-only period to another filleted journal, anyway...

I used to have a personal server-based weblog, but it was too much PITA work, and didn't get as many posts/friends/whatever. I recommend specifically against Movable Type!

What I went with after filetmignon started screwing up (I'm on it too) is GreatestJournal...it's working really well, enough that I wish more people would migrate because it has so many nicer free features. I also have you friended over there. :)

I'm over there also but I couldn't find anyone to friend plus I can't find the place to change my layout as easily.

I finally figured out today that if you go directly to www.greatestjournal.com then all of the needed links are on the left-hand side of the page -- you can click on "Style" and "S2" for layout changes. (I started working on mine last night.)

I have the same issue with finding friends...though with LJ being so unstable, I've managed to convince several people to at least be present on both in case LJ crashes entirely again. It seems like once people are there, then they start finding all the cool features and start posting. Hard part is getting them to try it!

The problem is, I make layouts in the "S1" style and I can't find a link that to that anymore on Greatest Journal.

i actually think gj is cooler than lj in some respects. i like my gj look better than my lj look.

beginning to consider doing parallel updates - on both lj and gj (semagic is pretty cool ;)

i have had a gj almost as long as this lj, and have thought seriously about switching to it.

many of my lj friends do have gj weblogs.

i suspect that if a few of us made more of our gj's we might encourage our communities to migrate there.

getting used to the older gj interface is not particularly difficult (but i remember when lj and gj were essentially identical).

i've had a lot of problems updating over the past few weeks.

and i often have to retry one in three updates. which is annoying.

thinking of moving to my greatestjournal - get more icons to play with for starters ;)
