Learn from the mistakes of others

party last night at rod & jess' was fun.

caught up with a few people i haven't seen for a while (including one person i haven't seen for - oh - four years or so). met some new people.

taxi ride home was surreal (apart from the $30 fare. ouch.)

taxi driver had the footy (australian rules football) on the radio. no idea which teams were playing.

now, i don't know a whole lot about 'our game', but i know enough to follow a match and understand general banter. our friend, the taxi driver, wanted to get my insights into a recent rule change. being tired, in a good mood (after-party bliss), and a little merry from beer + raspberry vodka cruiser (in the large bottle), i humoured him. so there we were, footy fan taxi driver and intoxicated, educated, footy ignoramus, driving along in the rain, discussing the finer points of football rules and umpiring. ok, so i cheated. i simply related everything to lawyering. but heck, the parallels are there.

an amusing, if surreal, ending to a good night out.
