conservative ideology seems to boil down to men feeling unmanly because women are out working. some of them are even making more money than the men do. (though not for doing the same job, in most instances.)
take, for example, the desperate crusade to 'save' 'the family'.
by which they mean dad, mom, and the kids. the 'nuclear' family that came into existence during the atomic age. before that, many families were far more 'extended'/integrated - with a lot more involvement from other family and friends in the child-raising caper [and no less involvement in the child-making caper than occurs today, i should point out.]
religious conservatives are desperate to control everyone else's lives, just as they've allowed theirs to be controlled by their weekend worshipping cults. [after all, why should they have all the fun?]
[kinda makes democracy redundant if we throw in with a theocracy.]
whenever conservatives talk about 'the family' they talk about their vision of middle class happy families, with daddy earning lots of money working hard at a 'good job', mommy at home 'raising' the kids, who are well behaved and go to a good (christian) school.
no mention of the grandparents (they're out of the way in a nursing home). friends drop round with their happy, smiling kids. he works with daddy, and she goes to the same whatever with mommy while the kids are at school.
the kids, of course, play sports together (extending the time that someone else is entertaining the pesky kids).
when they are older, the girls babysit (or work as waitresses), and the boys get jobs 'for pocketmoney' after school. (more time without the kids underfoot.)
and if this doesn't remind you of the stories that get told about the idyllic 50s ... well ... get with the damn program already!
[well, that's the message anyways]
