just in case you get confused, it appears that an old message written months ago (prior to the iraq invasion) has now appeared on my journal!
not sure yet where it came from - i've had a total system failure, changed computer, and then a complete system reformat in the meantime ...

is it just me or has the screen changed.... *rocks uncontrollably* i dont like change.... surprised, and also blinded by the new whiteness of the said screen....

i think i've finally sussed out what was going on here. i keep backups (no!) and i used one or two to restore my system - particularly application settings, etc (those are the biggest pain in the arse to reset - i customise practically every application i use: to the dismay of many a sysadmin, particularly as i know exactly how far i can go with them even in 'a uniform networked environment' pushing apps off a server pool :)

with semagic, i copied my archived directory across then installed the new version over the top ... the archive had a draft pending and i probably found it and posted it without thinking...
