ah, a definition of 'geek'.
if the media have it right, the english language has no definitions beyond this weeks effort by cnn, or abc, or nbc, or msn, or whatever the hell other tla feels suits their purposes. unfortunately, despite significant efforts by public and private concerns in our community to educate the population, a significant proportion (dare i say a majority) actually look to, nay rely upon, the media to educate and inform them. many seem to have learned little more from formal education than how to bully each other in artificial social environments. they could have learned as much staying at home. indeed, for some, even that might have been an improvement.
but enough bitchin' :)
a definition of geek ... for many, as [livejournal.com profile] jingdono points out in her comment on my previous post, geek means a wierd little guy who speeks funny (but is not humourous), wears odd clothes, and is obsessed by tech, rpgs, online everything, and lives on computer games and junk food.
blech.
who the fuck lets these jerks get away with this shit.
oh, yeah. the morons who think media monkeys are gurus of all things wise and wonderful.
great.
so, if you had to define what a geek, or a nerd, or whatever, was - what would you come up with? does being on the inside of a subculture matter when it comes to describing what the culture is really about? if not, why?
Mood:: 'accomplished' accomplished
Music:: Shakira - underneath your clothes
