Having grown up in a town that existed solely because it was also the headquarters of a petroleum company, I must say, been there, done that, almost 8 years ago now. They always used the pumps in our town to test out new ideas, and one of them was full color LCDs with speakers that would play commercials while you pump. They lasted maybe 6 months, because no one watched them, since most people clean windows, get back in their cars, or generally do something other than stare at or at something near the price ticker going up, up, up.
here in aus, you can't walk away - they made it illegal for pumps to function unattended - you gotta stand there and hold the pump lever the whole time ... O_o
to me this is just anohter way to justify high prices at the pumps ... "the pumps cost blah blah dollars ... we gotta recoup our investment ... blah blah"
