Well, welcome to 2003 CE.
Having spent two and a half hours on busses and trains getting into the city, I had to endure some ordinary covers of very ordinary top 40 music to partake of the Lord Mayor's free New Years Street Party ... which wasn't a party and wasn't on a street. Light to moderate drizzle kept everyone damp and bedraggled while the 'entertainment' bedazzled us with it's pedestrian production of the like of 'Living La Vida Loca' and 'Cup of Life' [the highlights as I left to find a nightclub and half hour later returned having found them all full or being very _selective_ in their inmates...
I started 2003 much the same way as I lived 2002 ... by making a dreadful mistake. I chose to buy, and then eat, something advertised as a Kransky Hot Dog ... and that was the best on offer under AUD$5.00 ... I should have gone for something Asian and sacrificed the extra AUD$1.50 or so. Spicy rubber - half filled with plastic cheese for *&*$@# sake! By the time my addled brain registered what was going into my stomach it was too late ...
The countdown was over by the time I'd made it to the front of the hot dog line. I can only assume that my selection was influenced by the mental fatigue brought on by hearing Auld Lang Syne for the zillionth time ....
I followed this up with an attempt to go home ... I surprised myself by only taking 1.5 hours to achieve that - seems not many people from my suburb are alive on new years eve. Only had to share the final leg with one other passenger.
Right now, I suspect the sun will be coming up soon and I should think about going to bed before my eyes fall out of my head or something.
