well, the universe is full of surprises.

way back when ... lets see ... november last year ... i applied to go back to uni (ok, to do another uni degree).

i listed four preferred courses:
1. graduate diploma in education [adelaide uni] (1 yr)
2. (graduate) bachelor of education (secondary) [flinders uni] (2 yrs)
3. master of it [uni sa] (2yrs)
4. grad dip in it [uni sa] (1 yr)

my plan being to become qualified as a high school teacher, go out into the country, and teach. then do another course to specialise in teaching gifted kids.

i got an offer.

ta da!

master of it at uni sa. thats right, my 3rd choice.

now, i have two honours degrees, so i was expecting to rank higher than 'missed out this time bucko' for my first preference, and even my second preference.

so. there must be a lot of people who wanted to do either of the graduate teaching courses. they are directly equivalent, btw.

so. the master of it. it turns out it is pretty much what i was doing in 1993-1994 but dropped out to do law. the gods have a sense of humour after all. (i only listed the it courses on a whim. and didn't really even look to see what they were about.

ha, didn't that learn me ;)

i can run, but i can't hide?

geek should be a geek and not pretending to have social aspirations?

anyway. i accepted the offer, but asked to be considered for my higher preferences in the next two rounds of offers.

otherwise, its back to programming. this time i'm a lawyer, not a molecular geneticist/biochemist. oh, ok. this time, i'm both.

my maths still sucks.

wow, I think you're idea of getting in and teaching gifted kids is a really good idea, it suits you - You might be one of the only teachers they arent smarter than... well they might be... you could develop a mind-ray to steal their gifts and sell them to the highest bidder (I'll put in an offer right now for any mind able to do any kind of maths - mine gave up)
good luck with it all!!!
