been doing some actual lawyer type work thingy stuff. going into the remand centre with an interpreter. on contract.
the bit that sucks is this: we only get one hour a day with the client. one hour. i have about a thousand pages of witness statements and transcripts that have to be read to the client and translated.
so, at the current rate of about fifteen pages per visit ... i'm going to be popping down to the 'arc' (adelaide remand centre) most days for a few months. at least.
still, it's actually not boring. i'm not learning vietnamese, but i am getting to know the interpreters, and by the time of the trial i'll know the client better than his lawyer who'll only have met him a few times.

go girl, you stick to your principles. environmental law (and litigation) is a growing area, so not a bad way to do something that satisfies the need to eat plus the need to do something meaningful.
i had a go at that with international criminal law - hit a brick wall - even with (probably because of) the current 'terrorism' fad. [it not like terrorism's been around for much of the past century - nor even a new phenomenon in the usa]
so, i'm doing somehting different. i'm going to try teaching instead. hopefully i can sneak in some education while i'm teaching teenagers to use the correct adverb when expressing their disrespect for society ;)
