so, i've been cat-sitting while my former wife and our son have been interstate for a family funeral.
meanwhile,
wintermute comes to town, so i miss meeting him.
but i did catch up with
red_moon_vixen today.

lol. relax girl, it's ok. funny. and ok.

it's been a long week. not much motivation to do stuff.
particularly after the boyfriend of my former wife's friend dropped round to take the tv and video back.
apparently he got bored in japan so decided to come home early. three years early.

in other news, i've heard about the tsunami now - thanks. no really, i heard about it. and all the exciting back-slapping going on coz people are rasing money to help out. how about not raising the sea any more, and doing something about the other effects of three centuries of industrialisation ... like colonialism and corruption.
speaking of disasters, south australia had it's first serious bushfire of the year ...

You've heard about the mudslide in California that killed 11 right? No where near the disaster of the tsunami, BUT get this -- they are going to let those morons move back into the area of the mudslide. Even though officials are saying its still not geologically stable. Even though there is a high likliehood of future mudslides. Even though the costs of cleaning up and rebuilding there is unjustifiable in view of the risk of repeat.
GAhH!!! These people drive me batshit, along with people who live in the traditional paths of tornados and hurricanes, at the bases of volcanos and along fault lines. The US is a massive country - there is no need to live in these dangerous places. And its not a triumph of the human spirit and inguinity to conquer these areas....
no, its just plain old fashioned stupidity.

we have our own brand of idiots right here. every dacade or so we have huge fires that burn every damn thing for hundreds of square kilometres/miles.(1) people living in 'fire-risk' areas know the kinds of precautions that they should take. but it only takes a year or two for them to relax, figure it'll never happen again, and set themselves up for the next big one.
---
1. note: they only happen coz we prevent the smaller, more regular fires that used to prevent the biggies by clearing away leaf little and underbrush, etc. now we are manic about prevenitng fires, we lay the table for monsters. the smaller ones are easy to cope with - though they do leave the place looking unsightly and singed ... but that's better than unsightly and razed to the ground.
