no really, it is.

or perhaps i really mean, "wow, that takes me back ..."

while looking for something completely unrelated i came across a blog entry that describes a brief period in my own life - by someone i knew obliquely at the time in question ...

in particular, i relate very much to the following:

"After my sojourn on contact, I re-entered the RAC team with mixed feelings. Being away from your mother-ship on a customer's site can seriously skew your perspective - and this is a lesson that I have remembered since. For instance, you find it hard to re-establish yourself in the mother organisation and can feel an outsider.

As always with contracts, I was extended for a total of 10 months. This strained relations with the 'mothership', RA and RAC. For me personally, I learn much about large organisation politics and management structures. And more importantly, what didn't work."
...

"However, there was one project where all three of us collaborated. Due to commercial-in-confidence issues, I cannot name the client -- but suffice to say, RAC was in a little over its head. The experience certainly helped us all understand the bounds of our skills, and our ability to expand into alternative platforms."

i very nearly got a job with random access and again later with random access consulting, and knew (of, about, met?) nick hodge because i couldn't resist doing strange it (consulting) contracts and because i flirted with the idea of buying myself a mac ii for a while. he was also instrumental in my not quite getting hired a few times.

1994, in particular, was a complex year for me. one that led ultimately to a move to darwin to begin the 3 year graduate law degree that took me 6 years, two universities and 170% of the course to complete. i do wonder what it was all for, twelve years later.

Mood:: 'nostalgic' nostalgic
