I've just uninstalled Oracle for the time being.

I might set up a separate user account for it to run under.

250M RAM dedicated to it running the Oracle DB engine in the background is a tad much even for my extravagant aesthetic :)

The Oracle database is really good, but quite resource hungry (unlike all other Oracle products, which are really shit and quite resource hungry).

So unless you have a specific need for Oracle, something like PostgreSQL or even SQLite might do the job.

My plan was to run Oracle locally so I can continue to refamiliarise myself with Oracle's Dev tools ... I'm once again tutor for a course where we hot house younglings in the Ways of the Force using Oracle. At some point I ought to get competent with the damn thing myself.

I'm now htinking I'll install the client version and try connecting to the Uni's Oracle server remotely. From outside the Intranet.

That may be even more challenging.
