Not that Aussies are much better. The history of our current anthem is much more recent. like most things here.

Mind you, we did get to vote for our's. Though kinda not quite for what we got...

Advance Australia Fair

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage

In joyful strains then let us sing,

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We'll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas

... "girt by fucking sea" ... girt by sea ... how may of you know what that means?

But it is better than that poem about a pathetic homeless sheep thief who kills himself ...
